LTY: Larchmont Temple Youth
Youth groups offer an environment in which our children can create and strengthen their Jewish community together. A full calendar of social action, learning, prayer, and exciting social opportunities expands the focus of Jewish community beyong the Religious School experience.
LarFTY - 9th - 12th Grade, Various times
LarFTY, our senior youth group for ninth through twelfth graders, offers programming designed and led by a peer-elected board, and advised by LarFTY Advisor Andrew Paull. LarFTY has exciting programs available for all high schoolers, including: social action, religious, cultural, educational, and recreational activities. This year’s LarFTY calendar includes a ski trip weekend in Vermont, an overnight shul-in, a comedy show, a NYC scavenger hunt, volunteering at the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force Food Pantry, apple picking, and weekly Starbucks office hours with Andrew.
Academy - 8th Grade, Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30 PM
On Tuesday evenings, students have the opportunity to engage in an exploration of God, Torah, and Israel through programs, discussions and activities. Chugim (electives) enable them to explore select topic on a more in-depth level. Shirah (music) adds a layer of meaning to topics covered throughout the year. Dinner and dessert are served.
LT8 - 8th Grade, Various times
A new youth group exclusively for Larchmont Temple 8th grade students, LT8 is a stepping-stone between JYGLT and LarFTY. This year’s events will help be determined by members of our 8th grade, but will include a monthly hang out at Starbucks.
Bagrut - 9th grade, Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 PM
A brand new LT initiative for our 9th graders to explore issues of identity and relationships with their peers. Students will engage in both gender separated learning and combined learning. Based on the theories and curriculum of the national organization Moving Traditions.
Confirmation - 10th Grade, Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 PM
With Rabbi Sirkman as their guide, and the bimah as their classroom, confirmation students are introduced to the great thinkers of Judaism as they explore questions about Judaism, God, true nature, and human evil. Students also participate in Social Justice Seminar in Washington, D.C., help run the LTRS Purim Carnival, and develop their own social action project.
LTRS Madrichim - Sundays, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Post b’nei mitzvah students are an essential part of the Saturday and Sunday Religious School program. Our Madrichim serve as classroom assistants and songleaders.
Diner Dialogue - 11th - 12th Grade, Thursdays, 6-7 PM
Post-confirmation participants have the opportunity to meet with Rabbi Sirkman at the Nautilus Diner for amazing tales, spirited discussion and enthralling dialogue. This tasty and thought provoking program will leave your soul and stomach satisfied. For the Fall, Diner Dialogue meets at the Nautilus Diner from 6-7 PM. Dates for 2013-2014 will be available soon.
